The Periwinkle Way Story

There’s something special about bike rides. It makes us feel like a kid again. That sense of freedom, wind in our face, and the smell of the summer. A momentary blip where all of our worries are put on hold. periwinkle Way is magical as it gives you that feeling of total relaxation, peace, and freedom anywhere and everywhere you go.

Sanibel Island is outside Fort Myers in Southwest Florida, there is only one causeway to and from the island.  The causeway is about three miles, but its purpose is much more than a road to get to the island.  The Sanibel causeway serves as a way-of-life transformation, taking you from the current day hustle and bustle and transitioning you to happiness. The drive along the causeway is special, don’t rush it.  Roll down the windows and savor the smell of the water, pelicans flying overhead, people having picnics, and windsurfers flying high.  Once on the island, it's as if you are transported into contentment and peace of mind.  There are no streetlights, there are no buildings higher than the trees, and there are no fast food restaurants (other than the two grandfathered).  The first street you see when you get to Sanibel Island is Periwinkle Way, the best street in the world.  It is the main street that connects the island, it serves as the heart of the island.  If you turn left, it takes you to the famous Lighthouse Beach, if you turn right, it takes you through the middle of the town with so many beautiful sights, sounds, shops, and restaurants. Any direction you choose is the right one. Each time we return to the island and we see the Periwinkle Way sign, it brings us so much joy.  It symbolizes vacation and happiness.  It represents a better place, a simpler life, and nature.

Periwinkle Way is such a fitting street name that symbolized the lush vegetation of the island.  Named after the beautiful periwinkle flower, the road is the main thoroughfare of the town.  The name brings together the whole experience of the sights, sounds, and smells.  Not only does it represent family, beaches, and wildlife, Periwinkle Way is a feeling.  Our goal is to spread this happy feeling to others.  When you see it or wear it, we want you to think of your fun relaxing vacation. Inspired by Sanibel and Captiva islands, Periwinkle Way means so much to us, and we hope it means so much to you as well. 

One of the very special characteristics of Sanibel are many miles of bike paths that allow for old fashioned transportation.  I love the fact that once you arrive on Sanibel, you don't have to drive again until vacation is over.  From the moment vacation begins, bicycles will take you everywhere you need to go.  From picking up groceries at Jerry's, to eating dinner at the Lazy Flamingo, to getting Ice Cream, take your bikes everywhere. 

  

It is very important to spread kindness, conserve nature, and make this planet a better place.  Since much of the island is reserved for conservation, it makes it quite special to those that love wildlife.  Animals are an important part of the island, from birds to dolphins, and everything in between, the beauty of the area are the animals and the landscape.  It is the feeling of vacation where all the problems of everyday life are paused. The feeling of total relaxation by being with the ones you love and connected to the nature around us. Connecting with nature is calming. Take deep breaths and smell the fresh salty air, hug a tree, listen to the birds or watch the clouds float away your worries. Periwinkle Way is the way to paradise.
